Karen Thurman, MSW, LCSW

I have been working in the field of mental health for 39 years. I began as a hospital social worker, assisting patients and their families with issues related to their hospitalization and health as well as with their discharge planning. I worked on medical units, children's units, mental health units and the emergency room. I became aware that my true calling was in mental health and crisis work. This has been the main focus of my practice the past 30 plus years.

I have had the good fortune to have worked in a variety of settings and agencies. These have included inpatient and outpatient, residential, community, and state operated mental health agencies, jails, prisons and Department of Children and Family Services. I have worked with individuals ranging from children to older adults, couples, and families. I practice in a nonjudgemental, compassionate, interactive, relaxed manner utilizing a variety of treatment modalities including Brain Paint.

I am fortunate to have the training and experience to help others overcome their struggles and fears. I focus on problem identification, client strengths, and limitation to help find resolution so they can function at their best. I am humbled and grateful that people put their trust in me with their personal issues and I treat that with the utmost dignity and respect.
